Melissa is a professional Bellydancer based in Toronto, Canada. Her authentic movement style, deep cultural awareness and elegant musical interpretation have made her one of the most beloved performers within the Arab community in Toronto and the Greater Toronto Area. Her foremost training has been at Arabesque Academy under the instruction of Yasmina Ramzy, Mary Cabral and Emese Dosa. Driven to always expand her knowledge of this dance, she has also trained with world-renowned instructors from across North America, Europe and the Middle East, including 2 months of intensive study in Cairo, Egypt in 2010. Her biggest influences are the great Egyptian dancers, Samia Gamal, Suheir Zaki, Fifi Abdou, and many more. Melissa is proficient in a variety of other Middle Eastern dance styles, including Saidii, Khaleeji, Debkeh, Tannoura and more.
In addition to her solo career, she was also a lead dancer in Arabesque Dance Company from 2006 to 2014 and appeared in their last five stage productions – ASALA, EGYPT, OUM, NOOR and JAMRA – as well as their 2010 tour of western Canada. An experienced instructor, her classes are sought after for her attention to technique as well as historical and cultural knowledge. She was a featured instructor at the International Bellydance Conference of Canada in 2012, as well as a performer on both the Emerging Artist and Main stage. She was the cover girl for Mid-Bits Magazine in 2010. Her TV performance credits include the hit series “Flashpoint” and the Lifetime movie “More of Me.”
